From the Bookshelf: 'That's not my...'

In the last few months, as our little one is getting more and more active, we've found ourselves looking for things to entertain him when we're out and about. He can't walk just yet, but is oh-so close, so time sat still is proving less popular and means packing the right kit for days out is essential.

At the weekend, we took a trip to Brighton to meet up with siblings and friends. Being 14 of us in total, we knew that lunch would be a lovely lazy affair. Fine when it's just adults, or your children are able to interact and move about independently, but not so great with a baby who just wants to crawl around everywhere. So, as well as a few toys, we popped three of Usborne's 'touch and feel' books under the pram and they proved just the ticket.

Unlike other board books, there are swatches of different textures on each page designed to encourage your little one to explore and play independently. Apart from that classic toddler game of throwing things to see what you'll pick up, they kept our little one suitably entertained and, his older cousins were great at reading and exploring with him.

We bought ours from Mothercare and used the sample copies to discover which he liked the most before settling on That's not my truck... and a multi-pack of That's not my bunny/lamb... but there are lots to choose from.
