Halloween: No Tricks, Just Treats

Halloween is the start of a slippery but, oh, so delicious slope that lasts until after Easter and it's all thanks to naughty treats! I'm not complaining really but, I just don't have the willpower to say no to a sweet treat.

I love baking with my children and they love it too so Halloween is always the perfect excuse to dust off their aprons and let them join in. As the weather gets colder, baking's a great activity (if you don't mind the sugar highs that follow, that is!).

Cupcakes are so easy to make. I swear by the Hummingbird Bakery Cookbook recipes but play around with the icing and decoration to suit the season. We use rubber spatulas and I have small ones for my toddlers to use: they spoon in the cake mix and spread on the icing. If the thought of letting your children loose with either sends you into a spin, limit them to a cupcake each or just involve them in the finishing touches. I pour sprinkles into bowls and let them dip the iced cupcakes. This Halloween, I also bought some edible cake toppers for them to add.

If you're not a baker, Betty Crocker has so many cheat's baking packs that are pretty straight forward. I'd not tried them before but bought a cookie one for a stress-free half term activity the other day and was really impressed with the results. We added mini-marshmallows for extra chewiness and they were delicious. It's a bit of a tenuous link but, I called them Cookie Monsters.

Gingerbread is ever a favourite in our household but I've not perfected a batch that doesn't go hard if they're not eaten fresh! The supermarkets have lots of great kits with ready-made gingerbread and decorations. I found these pumpkin ones in Tesco while I was doing my weekly shop (I can't find them online). They don't take long to decorate but they're pretty fun. Precise decoration is not really my forté so I decided not to get too hung up on it, as these gingerbread skeletons were never going to hang around long, so I let the kids do most of the decoration themselves.

If you're looking for more cookery ideas, creep your eyes peeled (I'm here all day folks!) for more coming on the blog soon. There are already some goodies though; you'll find them in Lifestyle - What's Cooking? or search cooking using the magnifying glass on the top right tool bar.

  2. My ex-husband and I had always managed to stay friendly after our divorce in February 2017. But I always wanted to get back together with him, All it took was a visit to this spell casters website last December, because my dream was to start a new year with my husband, and live happily with him.. This spell caster requested a specific love spell for me and my husband, and I accepted it. And this powerful spell caster began to work his magic. And 48 hours after this spell caster worked for me, my husband called me back for us to be together again, and he was remorseful for all his wrong deeds. My spell is working because guess what: My “husband” is back and we are making preparations on how to go to court and withdraw our divorce papers ASAP. This is nothing short of a miracle. Thank you Dr Emu for your powerful spells. Words are not enough. here is his Email: emutemple@gmail.com or call/text him on his WhatsApp +2347012841542
